Village Montessori School of Bluemont has served its students and community as a model of Montessori education and peace for over 19 years. The excellent staff and faculty at VMS are committed to educating their students (approximately 70 in total) in an authentic Montessori setting. Positioned on a campus burgeoning with natural beauty and friendly faces, VMS is a wonderful place to work and learn!
Performance Objectives:
The Montessori Classroom Assistant is responsible for supporting the lead guide in their efforts to advance the education of the students, using the best principles and practices of the Montessori method. In doing so, the assistant demonstrates respect for the individual child, helps with preparation of the environment, fosters independence and concentration in the child, respect for sensitive periods, and recognizes the importance of intrinsic motivation.
Key Responsibilities of a Montessori Classroom Assistant:
Assist the Guide in providing an atmosphere that is conducive to the smooth operation of the classroom.
To aid the Guides in classroom planning, supervision and maintenance.
The ability to foster a warm and accepting environment.
To accept the unique qualities of each child.
To be alert to the total group even when dealing with only a part of it.
To remain collected even in startling or difficult situations.
Assist children in gaining confidence, facilitating social interaction and cooperative group behavior.
Flexibility to move between classrooms, working with different student and staff groups depending on the daily overall needs of the school.
The ability to individually supervise a limited number of students of different ages.
Reports to: Lead Classroom Guide and Head of School

Responsiblities:
Classroom experience preferred but not required. Montessori experience is a plus.
A passion and joy for working with children of all ages and an enthusiasm for learning.
Personal traits and communication style that nurture the growth and development of children.
This position is part-time, Monday through Friday. We provide limited benefits to part-time employees, and the competitive hourly wage is commensurate with experience.
